Stroma's UKAS accredited Competent Person Scheme (CPS) provides certification for a number of measures which cover a range of different trades. Part P and domestic electrical installation is one of these. Within the Building Regulations 2013 it suggests that electrical installation and maintenance should be of a recognised standard to avoid injury to members of the public. It is a homeowner’s right and responsibility to ensure that a competent electrician is carrying out work in line with the Part P Building Regulations. Your Stroma Certification CPS membership proves your competence to your customers.

Electricians who are members of a DCLG authorised Competent Person Scheme can also self-certify their work as compliant. This means that by hiring a Stroma-certified electrician, a homeowner has the peace of mind that the work will meet the requirements of the Building Regulations.

Our Competent Person Scheme holds UKAS accreditation under ISO/IEC 17065:2012.

Checkatrade runs strict background checks on tradespeople before they can become members. Once they join, members agree to have feedback from their customers put online for all to see. We’ve published 4,361,620 to date. See our FAQs for our process on how we publish feedback.

Members promise to meet The Checkatrade Standard.

No other directory of tradespeople uses this model. The background checks and public feedback ensure that only reliable and trusted tradespeople get work through Checkatrade. They make sure that you can find someone outstanding to get the job done.

Competent Person Schemes (CPS) were introduced by the UK Government to allow individuals and enterprises to self-certify that their work complies with the Building Regulations as an alternative to submitting a building notice or using an approved inspector.

A Competent Person must be registered with a scheme that has been approved by The Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG). Schemes authorised by the DCLG are listed on its website at http://www.communities.gov.uk
